Finding My Groove

Apple and Thistle was started during the early days of the pandemic - something to kill the time and boredom while I was stuck at home and unable to complete tasks for my event planning job.

While spending time experimenting with various hobbies such as soapmaking and pouring candles, I bought a stamp-making kit on a whim off of Amazon, and had no idea how enamored I would become with the medium. There is something so relaxing about carving an image out of the soft rubber or challenging linoleum (I do enjoy both materials for different reasons) to the point that I find it easy to lose track of time.

Printmaking has since become a huge passion of mine, and I find myself constantly on the lookout for new inspiration. While I love making images based on a good pun or cinematic moment, I find that I am repeatedly drawn to images that I photographed when living in the Sonoran Desert - Southern Arizona is one of the places that have truly captured my heart, and I love getting to revisit it through my art.

Me - The Artist

Hi there! My name is Mady, and I am so very excited that you are here checking out my website. At my very first fair, I was completely unready for the number of times I would be asked, “Are you the artist?” and the pleasure I would get from getting to answer, “I am!!” I am so THRILLED and completely humbled that so many people have connected with things I’ve made - either online or shopping in person - enough to purchase something either for themselves or a loved one.

You’ll see various passions of mine pop up in my art - from nature and the outdoors, to cats, to rollerskating and puns. I’m happiest when either creating or out surrounded by nature.

Thanks for checking out my page and coming along on this journey with me!

The OG Apple & Thistle

The original Apple and Thistle are my two beloved cats - six and half years old at the time of this website launch. They have been with me through thick and thin and have moved from the suburbs of New Jersey to the deserts of Arizona to the frigid winters of Metro Detroit, with nary a complaint. They provide constant companionship and inspiration - and you will find their faces in many of my pieces.
